Mammography
A mammography is available by appointment
A mammography is a medical imaging technique that uses low-dose X-rays to examine breast tissue. It is mainly used to screen for breast cancer in women and, more rarely, in men. It may be prescribed in certain asymptomatic cases and for diagnosis in cases of symptoms such as a lump, pain, or discharge. It is a quick and effective test for detecting early abnormalities.
To obtain a high-quality image, the breast is compressed during the exam, which may be slightly uncomfortable for some people. A mammography may be supplemented by breast ultrasound or MRI when the breasts are very dense or in cases of diagnostic uncertainty.
In Quebec, the Quebec Breast Cancer Screening Program (PQDCS) invites women aged 50 to 74 who are insured by the Quebec public health insurance plan to have a mammography every two years.
Continuity of care is at the heart of our approach. When a breast exam reveals an abnormality requiring further investigation, the person concerned can be quickly referred for a biopsy at the Centre hospitalier Pierre-Boucher, ensuring rapid and coordinated care. This continuity in the care pathway is made possible by our radiologists’ affiliation with this institution.
